This guy was n the cemetery wall when I spotted him - but photographed on a railing over the road. I think that still counts against my original objective (of photographs from cemetery)

I was so chuffed with this find - that I let the county recorder know.. I got this reply.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. I am certainly grateful for any county records of hoverflies, especially this one, which has only been seen in Gloucestershire since 2001. Your "guy" is in fact a "girl" - it's a female (you can tell that because the eyes are separated and its thorax is chestnut-coloured; that of the male is black).
Is the cemetery where you saw it the one in Bisley Road? I shall add your record to the database of county hoverfly records, which will also be sent to the national hoverfly recording scheme.
